Wairau Valley
The Wairau River Valley, Blenheim, upper South Island, New Zealand. This valley is well known area for producing quality NZ wines, mostly white wine. The soils are alluvial, and the climate awesome, with alot of sun and warm days, but dry as it is in the lee of the Richmond Range. You can drive from here through the Ranges to Nelson another popular and sunny spot, or Picton which is located at the end of Queen Charlotte Sound in the Marlborough Sounds. From Picton you (and your car) can catch the ferry to cross the Cook Straight to Wellington, North Island.
Wairau Bar
Wairau Bar located in Marlborough, New Zealand in the South Island near Blenehim. A bar or bank of gravel has formed where the Wairau River meets the sea. A favorite fishing spot for many.
